TRANSPARENCY FOR HOMEOWNERS

How We Approach Solar Education

Our purpose is to help homeowners understand their choices before they sign a contract. We want information to be useful, source-aware, and clear about what is not known.

1. Source quality and verification

We favor directly published information from government agencies, utilities, program administrators, manufacturers, and original technical documents when available. Third-party reports can add context, but claims about rebates, tariffs, qualifications, or legal rights should be checked against the responsible official source.

Examples of homeowner primary sources include the Federal Trade Commission's solar consumer guidance, the U.S. Department of Energy's solar planning information, and each household's actual utility tariff and bill.

2. What our calculators can and cannot do

Calculators use the values you provide and the assumptions explained alongside their results. Examples and illustrative monthly cost scenarios are not offers, verified site designs, binding quotes, guaranteed savings, or eligibility determinations. Always compare written offers, current utility rates, and the details of your own home.

The 25-year solar payment explorer adds the payments and other costs you enter; it does not predict future production or electric rates.

3. Editorial review and corrections

We aim to identify publication or update dates when grounded in an editorial record, retain useful source references, and distinguish confirmed information from illustrative scenarios. A date displayed on an article does not by itself mean every linked program has been reverified today. Rules and availability can change, so check official program pages before making financial decisions.

Found something that looks wrong, outdated, incomplete, or unclear? Contact Home Solar Simplified with the article title, the disputed statement, and a primary source if available. We can assess substantive corrections, clarify material limitations, and update the page when a change is supported. We do not label a guide newly reviewed solely because a template or website design changed.

How automation supports the website

Some research organization, drafting, translation, technical checks and accessibility or SEO reviews may be AI-assisted or automated. Automation is not proof that a person personally tested equipment, inspected a home, spoke with an official or verified the current status of every program. We distinguish sourced facts, calculations, editorial interpretation and illustrative examples; readers should check the directly responsible source when making a consequential decision.

An article's list of sources describes available references, not a claim of endorsement by those organizations or a guarantee that every source remains current.

4. Providers, referrals, and permissions

Home Solar Simplified offers education and may connect homeowners with independent participating providers. We may receive a referral fee in connection with an introduction. We do not represent ourselves as a utility or government agency. Provider listings are not proof of licensing, coverage, availability, or suitability for your project.

You can read and use educational tools without agreeing to installer contact. In our request forms, contact permission and optional permission to share details with an installer are presented separately. Verify a company's credentials, reviews, scope and contract independently.

5. Your decision comes first

We encourage collecting a full year of electricity usage, reviewing the condition of your roof, comparing written proposals and warranties, and asking questions about long-term total cost. An informed choice may be to install solar, to focus on energy efficiency, to wait, or not to proceed.
