Current status

LADWP lists a waitlist because funding is limited. It also says a lottery notification does not automatically award funding. Do not treat an application receipt as money available to pay your contractor.

The single-family income pathway

LADWP’s single-family pathway requires household income at or below 80% of Area Median Income, supported by the most recent available federal income tax documentation. Multifamily properties have separate requirements; do not apply this single-family threshold as the complete rule for an apartment building.

Project review matters

A March 2026 notice explains that additional cost verification may be required and unusually high-cost proposals may need changes or be canceled. Ask the administrator what stage your project has reached before relying on a projected incentive.

A practical example

Suppose a proposal includes an anticipated award but you have only a waitlist acknowledgment. Build your first budget assuming no award. Then ask the installer what happens to the contract if funding never arrives or the approved project cost changes. This example illustrates budgeting, not a forecast of program funding.

Prepare an organized application

Start at LADWP’s official SGIP page and follow its application and developer links. Keep your utility bill, requested income documents and proposal together. Track each request for additional documents with a deadline and retain copies of what you submit.

Questions before signing

Ask for a written explanation of the proposed solar and battery sizes, included electrical work and responsibilities for filing. Review whether any deposit is refundable if assistance is denied. If an outage is your priority, request an essential-load plan so the proposed battery meets that goal as well as the project requirements.
