MCE Solar Battery Bill Credits: Could You Save Up to $20 a Month?

Who qualifies and how much

MCE requires a customer account, solar paired with a home battery and an eligible time-of-use rate. Its page lists $10 monthly for 7–20 kWh batteries and $20 for batteries over 20 kWh. Batteries must discharge daily from 4–9 p.m., with a reserve no higher than 20%, except when preparing for or during an outage.

A bill credit, with operating requirements

This is an ongoing bill credit, not a cash rebate toward installation. MCE says enrollment does not change NEM status; customers expecting SGIP must choose a compatible rate. Ask the administrator about your exact equipment and obligations.

Check the fit for your household

Compare the full electricity bill under the proposed rate and your desired backup reserve. A smaller credit may still be useful, but a payment alone does not establish that a rate change fits your consumption. Have your battery model and current rate ready when asking questions.

Apply through MCE

The official page contains the application and programming instructions. MCE says credits start within two billing cycles after eligibility and programming are confirmed. Save your confirmation and check the subsequent bills.
