Sacramento Area Battery Incentives: SMUD's Current Enrollment Offer
Eligible SMUD customers can investigate My Energy Optimizer Partner+. New projects have a lower incentive cap than older advertisements may show.
Program information checked October 5, 2026. Confirm current availability with the administrator.

The current offer and deadline
SMUD now lists $300 per eligible kWh, capped at $6,000 per household, for interconnection submissions from September 23, 2026. Its amounts account for a 20% reserve. The older $500 rate and $10,000 cap require submission by September 22 and enrollment by December 31, 2026. Both tiers require enrollment within 90 days of permission to operate.
Who should investigate
Eligibility includes a qualifying installed home battery and SMUD's Solar and Storage Rate. MED-rate customers and individual rental units are excluded. Customers whose equipment costs SMUD fully covers cannot receive the one-time enrollment payment. Ongoing quarterly incentives currently apply only to Tesla batteries.
Why battery size is not the payment
SMUD's current table lists a 10 kWh Enphase IQBattery-10C at $2,400 under the newer tier. Use the exact model's published amount; multiplying every nameplate kWh by $300 misses the reserve adjustment. Keep enrollment payments separate from any recurring rewards.
A homeowner's decision
Start with the loads you want supported and the equipment that serves them. Buying a larger battery merely to chase an incentive can increase your net cost. Request the installed price, expected approved payment and financing terms separately. Compare the battery's usefulness to your household even if a later participation payment changes.
How to apply
Open SMUD's official homeowner page and follow the Tesla or non-Tesla enrollment route for your equipment. Have the model number, interconnection submission date and permission-to-operate date ready. Ask SMUD to confirm your tier and reserve settings before signing.
